Will Johnston-Rutledge (formerly Johnston-Carter) is a freelance video editor and motion graphics designer based in Holyoke, MA.
He has over 10 years experience producing promotional and educational videos for nonprofits and progressive causes. His work has been written about or featured on MSNBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politco, Bustle, Vice, and NPR.
Bio:
Born in Connecticut but raised on the Central Coast of California, Will graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Film Production and a BS in Physics.
After college, he interned for the documentary filmmaker Robert Kenner (Food Inc, War Letters, Two Days in October) before spending two years with AmeriCorps where he served as Media Production Coordinator for the nonprofit organization Impact America.
In 2017, he southbound through-hiked the Appalachian Trail, 2,189 miles from Maine to Georgia, and took way too many photos to prove it.
From 2018 to 2022, he worked at Define American, where he produced videos about immigration, identity, and citizenship in a changing America.
From 2022 to 2025, he studied Animation and Computational Art in the Studio Art MFA program at UMass Amherst.
As a freelancer, he specializes in producing online video content for nonprofits and progressive causes, working with clients such as The Nature Conservancy of California, The Education Trust, Tipping Point, and The New York Community Trust.
He lives in Holyoke, MA with his wife, daughter, and corgi dog.
